Lessons Learned

Through implementing the Tameer Project and other miscellaneous activities NAACC has so far learnt following lessons:

Locally initiated or indigenous approach to fight AIDS was a good learning experience in the region.

Public Sector Support and initiative to foster a civil society led network in fight against HIV and AIDS can leave long lasting positive impacts of its interventions on the target communities.

The intervention design in the HIV and AIDS prevention should be driven by the cultural norms and religious values of the target communities.

Sustainability and resource mobilisation initiatives for any of the project should be taken timely and from the beginning of the projects.

A centralised approach in terms of financial management can badly suffer the progress and outputs of any project.

It is learnt that Small Grants Programme is an effective tool for obtaining required output and bringing changes in the behaviours of the vulnerable communities.

Strong linkages and coordination with both print and electronic media can leave long lasting impacts of a project.

Qualified and technically sound board members and volunteers of any organisation can be a good advantage and asset for the organisations.

Adaptation of good governance guidelines and sharing of best practices enhance the repute and coordination and performance of an organisation.

Uniformed forces being rendering services away from their homes, living collectively and lacking sufficient information on the issues pertaining to HIV and AIDS are also vulnerable to AIDS. Therefore NAACC has signed an MOU with Northern Areas Police Department (NAPD) and organising joint venture in collaboration with NAPD for prevention of AIDS among police force of the region on regular and need basis.
 

Conclusion:

It is widely recognised that NAACC efforts have brought a great impact on the lives of the thousand of people of the region through creating awareness, dissemination of information, intervention based service delivery initiatives, building capacities and undertaking research in the field of HIV and AIDS in the Northern Areas.
