NAACC, WSG/PDCN, UNIFEM-Pakistan, PNAC and UNICEF-Pakistan joined hands to fight against AIDS, Human Rights and Women Rights in Northern Areas, Pakistan

The Northern Areas AIDS Control Consortium (NAACC) a non profitable, welfare-cum-developmental network, was established in the year 2002 and registered with Govt during 2004, which is now a network of 32 registered NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of health and social sector from all six districts of the Federally Administered Northern Areas (FANA) of Pakistan with special focus on prevention and control of HIV and AIDS and other infectious diseases including Hepatitis B and C and others in the Northern Areas.

To achieve NAACC’s mission, vision and objectives NAACC is time-to-time conducting various activities and interventions at macro, mezzo and gross roots levels for awareness

raising, sensitisation, bringing attitudinal & behaviour change and advocacy & lobbying on .aforesaid issues on self-help as well as donation basis. In addition to this NAACC is implementing an intervention, research and capacity building based TAMEER Project from 2004 to date with financial support of EC and DFID and technical assistance of PNAC and IWP

By support of United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM-Pakistan) NAACC as lead org and Women Support Group (WSG) a component of Professional Development Centre North (PDCN) as partner org are implementing 16 days awareness raising and advocacy based project entitled “Strengthening the voice of Marginalized Women for Mainstreaming Gender in Development in Northern Areas/FANA”, Pakistan Under the “16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence 25 November-10 December 2007” from 25th November to 10th December 2007 in Northern Areas.

Major activities under the activism are as follows:

Radio Panel Talk regarding the Subject and 16-Days Activism Campaign at Gilgit

Key Stakeholders Sensitization Seminar on Violence Against Women in the context of FANA

(As Observing 25th November, International Day Against Violence Against Women) at Gilgit

One-day Workshop on Role and Challenges of the Women Human Rights Defenders in fight against Women Human Rights

(As Observing 29th November, International Women Human Rights Defenders Day) at Skardu

Inter-Colleges Speech Competition on the theme of  “AIDS Hum Sab Ka Masala Hay” (AIDS is problem of everyone)

(As Observing 1st December, World AIDS Day) at Gilgit

Conducting Candle Light Memorial activity on the occasion of Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre as  recognition of  their sacrifices/devotion

(As Observing December 6, Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre) at Gahkuch

Key Stakeholders Advocacy Conference on Mainstreaming Human Rights in all Development initiatives in FANA

(As observing 10 December, International Human Rights Day) at Gilgit

While on the eve of World AIDS Day (apart from aforesaid activity), NAACC by financial assistance of UNICEF-Pakistan and Pakistan AIDS Control Federation (PNAC) has scheduled to conduct  Community Event “SHAOOR SHOW” on HIV & AIDS Awareness and Sensitization for HIV & AIDS Leaders, Vulnerable Population and Masses in FANA (SHAOOR is an Urdu word means ‘Awareness/Wisdom’) by arranging stage show in which scripts, dramas, parodies, poetry, Qawali and songs will be performed on the subject of HIV & AIDS effectively and efficiently through renowned artists from Karakuram Arts and Welfare Council (KAWC) Gilgit on 8th Decemebr 2007 at Gilgit.
