Title of the Project: Prevention of HIV/AIDS Among Border Traders in Gilgit District

Location:        Gilgit Town and Sost Border Town

Purpose:

·          To Create Awareness and increase Education about the causes and modes of spread
   of HIV/AIDS/STIs among Border traders and other community groups.

·          Promotion of safe sexual behavior among border traders to prevent HIV/AIDS

·          Capacity building of peer educators and outreach workers

·          Improved health seeking behavior of the target population

Target:   400  Border Traders

Expected Outputs:                   

·          Improved Knowledge and practice of HIV preventive measures and STI services for 400 border traders.

·          Increased accessibility and use of condoms

·          Strengthening capacity of 40 peer educators/outreach workers to effectively manage HIV/AIDS interventions.

·          Increased accessibility to STIs  management &screening

Progress Up to date:  Project started in 15 December 2004 and will be completed in the autumn of 2006.   All staff hired.  Building is also hired  equipment is purchased. Project document shared with all staff. Few sessions of trainings are reported to be done. Geographical mapping not done. RSA Baseline Report under process. Referral mechanism established PHC Centre established at Sost Border. STI Management Mechanism in place. Steering committee formulated. Target population assessed is 33%

Remarks/Challenges:

Completion of RSA Process. Data Collection through RSA at Gilgit &Sost

Questionnaire development  and  enumerators selection.
