World Health Day

Right from day one, NAACC rendered services to raise awareness and bring about attitudinal change among the masses and vulnerable population towards HIV and AIDS, and social issues including women issues in Northern Areas.

The Northern Areas AIDS Control Consortium (NAACC) is rendering services for combating HIV&AIDS and other infectious diseases and uplifting health-seeking behavior and Health Education with special focus on Rights Based Approach (RBA) and Women Rights since 2002.

In order to join hands with all stakeholders and marginalized groups locally and globally NAACC has conducted a meaningful awareness raising-cum-advocacy based Seminar on the eve of International Women Day (March 08) and World Health Day (April 07) on April 09, 2008 at Gilgit in collaboration with Health Directorate NAs, Karakuram Cooperative Bank (KCBL) NAs, PDCN (Women Support Group), Population Welfare Program NAs,.

The main theme of the seminar was Awareness raising-cum-advocacy Seminar on Health Day, focus to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Highlighting major women issues including MMR, IMR and Suicide faced women in FANA

  2. Inauguration of NAACC Progress Report 2002-2007

Dr. Abdul Latif Program Coordinator NAACP congratulated NAACC, Population Welfare Program, and Directorate of health and PDCN (WSG) for contributing and conducting of the seminar with reference to women day and health day jointly.

Dr. Abdul Jalil Director Health Services appreciated all the participants and also congratulated NAACC efforts to combating HIV/AIDS since 2002 in the region. Dr.Ejaz Tahseen Chairman Regional Advisory Group NAACC and Chief Technical Advisor SSDC expressed his views on Health issues regarding ratio of (MMR) Maternal Morality Rate.

Ms. Salima Yar Khan discussed on women issues and gender discrimination, Mr.Ejaz Ahmed Khan President NAACC Shared about the principle and policies of NAACC, Mr Zafar Khan Senior Teacher shared about the culture and its effects of the persons and in the end the Chief Guest of the event Mr. Sher Jehan Mir appreciated NAACC and inaugurated the progress Report of NAACC.

Event was ended with the vote of thanks by Mr. Tashfeen Rafiq Assistant Regional Manager NAACC.

 

World Environment Day:

 On the eve of World Environment Day (June 5, 2008) the Ismaili Boys Scouts

Association in collaboration with Northern Areas AIDS Control Consortium (NAACC) www.naacc.org.pk , Gilgit, Pakistan,  NATCO, AKRSP, WWF and Tourism Department organized one-week Environment Walk from Gulmit-Gilgit (Gulmit is situated near Pak-China Border) for awareness raising and advocacy on environmental issues, sustainable development and Infectious Diseases including HIV&AIDS and Hepatitis etc

In this connection a one-day seminar on same subjects was organized on June 5, 2008 in Gilgit. In which key stakeholders and participants were participated enthusiastically. As key speaker Mr. Ishtiaq Ahmed Yaad General Secretary NAACC delivered speech on Infectious diseases particularly about HIV&AIDS and Global Warming, Biodiversity and Environmental Education before about 100 key stakeholders and youth.

Outputs of the Activity:

  1. About 300 volunteers from partners of the activity have done cleaning activity from Gulmit to Gilgit via Karakuram Highway (KKH which is the 8th Wonder of the World and the major mean of communication between China and Pakistan) throughout the one week from 30th May to 5th June 2008. as result, thousands of people were aware about the environmental issues and deposed off about the large number of waste.
     

  2. About thousands of people of Northern Areas through direct and local cable network, Radio Pakistan and newspapers got awareness and adequate information about HIV&AIDS, Global Warming, Biodiversity and Environmental Education.
     

  3. Given an Award/Souvenir to NAACC as recognizing NAACC’s leading and effective role in combating HIV&AIDS and key role in protecting environment in Northern Areas since 2002.

 

World Woman Day:

NAACC participated in the Women Day Celebrations organized by women directorate in collaboration with federal Government women Degree College and Northern Areas Secretariat and Administration.

NAACC organized a stall and disseminated IEC material on Women Human Rights issues, HIV and AIDS awareness raising though direct communication with college student and female from all walks of life who participated in the activity.

NAACC Volunteers Ms Kaint Kiran and Ms Marium under guidance of  Tashfeen Rafiq (ARM) and Ishtiaq Ahmed  ( GS )Participated as key resource persons in the activity, more than 2000 female (students, school and college teachers and house wife’s) 500 male were sensitized regarding HIV and AIDS and women human rights.
